The
Tennessee Society of the Children of the American Revolution
The sr. board meeting of the Tennessee
Society Children of the American Revolution was called to order at
9:25 pm on Friday February 26, 2010 at Henry Horton State Park by
Karen Hudson, sr. president.
Misty Kile, Sr. Chaplain, led a prayer.
It was announced that there had been a
tragedy involving a family in the President Polk/President Jackson
Society and everyone was asked to keep the family in prayer.
Because Effie Schumacher, Sr Recording
Secretary, had to leave the conference due to a family emergency,
Renee Robinson acted as Sr Recording Secretary.
All had an opportunity to read the
August minutes on the website and no corrections were made. A few
minor corrections in spelling and names were made to the March
minutes. The August minutes were approved as posted and the March
minutes were approved as corrected.
Donna Phillips, sr treasurer,
distributed the financial report. It was approved as presented.
Charlotte Miller and Jean Vance, sr
scholarship committee members, recommended that two scholarship
awards be given of $300 each to Logan Peck and to Katherine Nash.
Katherine's will be awarded pending receipt of her transcript. The
recommendation in the form of a motion was approved.
Laura Bush, Nomination Committee Chair,
Catherine Walton, and Evan Aliquo presented the 2010-2011 slate of
officers. Seniors were urged to encourage their members to apply
for the state board next year so that there would be more
representation from various societies.
Anne Bush, sr. first vice-president,
led a discussion regarding the Liberty Bell as an online newsletter.
She presented comments received from seniors. She then moved that
the Liberty Bell's four issues for 2010-2011 be published online.
Patsy Swindel, sr. corresponding secretary, seconded.
Discussion followed. A summary of the
advantages discussed was that more articles could be added to the
newsletter, cost savings of $1500 per year, no limit on size of
newsletter, timely posting online. The disadvantages discussed were
that some have dial-up and would need to go to library, members like
to receive mail, parents won't print the newsletter.
It was also announced that the DAR
annual contribution is for the general fund and is not restricted to
use for the Liberty Bell. It is to be used how C.A.R. sees fit.
This clarification came from the State Regent and the State Finance
committee of TSDAR.
Florence Byrd, sr president Elizabeth
Paxton Houston, called for the question. A vote was taken. The
vote was 10 for an online newsletter for the coming year and 3
against. The motion carried.
The T.S.C.A.R. website was discussed
and comments are encouraged to be sent to sr. president.
Karen Hudson announced that Cindy
Charlton has submitted her resignation as sr. second vice-president.
Charlotte Miller will fill Cindy's unexpired term. Jennifer Rowan
will fill Charlotte's unexpired term as sr. librarian-curator.
It was announced that Over the Mountain
Men is disbanding due to having no senior leadership and no members.
New sr society presidents are: Natalie
Payne, Michael Peeler Society; Gail Longton, Sevier Station Society,
and Julie Hyatt, Rocky Mount Society.
Sr presidents were encouraged to submit
names of members interested in serving as state chairmen to the new
state president.
It was announced that the Sr. National
Nominating Committee has nominated Renee Robinson as Sr. National
Vice-President of the Mid-Southern Region. This will be voted on by
the Sr. National Board of Management at the board meeting in April
2010.
Jean Vance, sr. president Joseph Greer,
asked a question about Local Society Annual Report and about by-laws
provisions for society presidents. Everyone was reminded that the
report is due April 1 to the sr president and that by-laws
guidelines are on the state website and that it is an individual
society decision regarding length of term for a society president.
There being no further business, the
meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
